Classification and expression analysis of cucumber (<i>Cucumis sativus</i> L.) callose synthase (<i>CalS</i>) family genes and localization of CsCalS4, a protein involved in pollen development

Callose plays an important role in plant development and response to multiple biotic abiotic stresses. synthase (CalS; EC 2.4.1.34), the main enzyme callose synthesis, has been studied a number of crops but not cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.). In this study, 10 genes encoding putative were identified classified into four clades. Expression levels CsCalS genes, which varied considerably, detected most analyzed organs. Transcription CsCalS1 CsCalS8 was obviously induced by downy or powdery mildews, are pathogenic fungi cucumber. CsCalS4, highly expressed male flowers, chosen for further study. analysis revealed that CsCalS4 mainly anther, at stage anther meiosis (St10), uninuclear pollen appearance (St11). Histochemical subcellular localization analyses indicated present grains primarily localized plasma membrane. The results study provided basic understanding suggest involvement development.
